A National Training Workshop on ICT Statistics has been successfully held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from 22 to 23 May 2017 by the initiative of the Communications and Information Technology Authority (CITA) and with the assistance of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Communications Regulatory Commission of Mongolia (CRC) and National Statistics Office (NSO) of Mongolia.

This is the first workshop on ICT Statistics and Indicators among representatives and experts from various government agencies involved in collecting ICT-related statistics, as well as telecommunication operators, service providers, and academics.

The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of the country to produce internationally comparable and quality statistics and indicators on telecommunications and ICTs. The workshop included presentations and discussions covering the ITU indicators used in the collection of ICT statistics from operators, as well as indicators on ICT access and use by households and individuals collected through household surveys. It also covered the new indicators that will be used to calculate the IDI, agreed during the Extraordinary Meeting of the Expert Group on Telecom/ICT Indicators (EGTI) and Expert Group on Household ICT Indicators (EGH).

The workshop was attended by about 120 participants of more than 60 government and private organizations of the ICT sector in Mongolia and guest speakers of ITU including Mr. Wisit Atipayakoon, Programme Coordinator, Mrs. Ezperanza Magpantay, Senior Statistician, and Mr. Hock Eng Koay, Consultant.
